Khalid:Hello, stranger!
Helen:Ooh, hi Khalid! How are you? It’s been ages, hasn’t it?
Khalid:I know! I haven’t seen you since the barbecue.
Helen:Oh yeah, the barbecue. It was a smashing day wasn’t it? But poor Alice was really ill the next day.
Khalid:Was she?
Helen:She had to go to the doctors. But she’s as right as rain now. Anyway Khalid, what’s happening with you?
Khalid:Well, I’ve just enrolled on a part-time course here at the university, and I’m still a student at the language school!
Helen:Wow! So you’re studying hard?
Khalid:Of course! But it’s not easily to study at home. My flatmates are really rowdy and I can never get any peace and quiet.
Helen:Hmm… I might be able to help you with that.

Extra part:

Khalid: What do you mean?

Helen: Why don’t you come to my house to study?

Khalid: That’s a great idea… but where do you live?

Helen: I live near the park, you do know where it is?

Khalid: Oh I do! that’s near my university!

Helen: That’s wonderful, do you have a free day?

Khalid: Yes, I have most of the weekend!

Helen: Great! you can come any time that you’re available.

Khalid: Cool! thank you!

Helen: I’ts no problem!

Unit 1 interaction task.

Script:

The video reminds me a lot of several assignments I’ve had to do throughout my life, especially like, “What was this place like before?” or other types of questions that one normally asks their grandparents since as children we were always curious about what the past was like. For example, last semester I had to make a comparison of what Santa Julia was like before and now and I asked my grandmother who has been there since the beginning and truly everything was very different. Another thing I can personally comment on is the final question of how it feels to live so long since my grandmother had to see her parents and my grandfather die and I really am left with the sad doubt of what it will be like to outlive your loved ones. But for the rest of the video, one can truly identify with the curiosity that children show with older people about what their life was like before and what the world was like so many years ago, even becoming surprised at how everything has changed.

other things I could say are the way older people communicate since they use expressions that normally are not used anymore or have been changed for others, an example is that my grandfather called me (zangano) and he was the only person I knew who called me that way and I always thought it was a way to bother me in a loving way but one day a psychologist who was visiting at the time explained to me that this was a very old way of telling people they were lazy, it made me laugh to discover that since if it weren’t for that psychologist I would never have understood what (zangano) meant and that made me think about how many ways he called me and my cousins, ways that only in her time would be understood.

Home listening task U 1: Life Experiences

Script: This is my personal opinión/experience about the university.

I personally think that it is a very nice place with understanding and kind people, especially the teachers who are always willing to give us a hand and help us with our difficulties, about the university in general, at first I found it peculiar but manageable, I mean everything was new and I had to get used to the change, it took time but I think I’m starting to get used to it now, as long as everything continues to be good, personally I won’t have any problems. Other things I could talk about are my classmates, they are quite friendly and they manage to create a pleasant environment in which one feels comfortable, it’s my thing that I stay away but on the part of all of them they are incredible people. Things like how big the university is were also problems at first because of the confusion of finding classrooms, but now I’m used to the towers and how to find my classrooms. With all that said, I think this would be my personal opinion for the moment about the university.

My Goals, Challenges and Expectations for Language 2.

It’s time to start the new semester.

About my last written experience about what I hoped to achieve, I really believe I managed to improve several aspects.

Above all, I managed to improve my way of speaking since I personally believe that after the first semester I managed to gain more confidence in myself, although it is still complicated for me when recording audios since I try to sound good when I record and that causes me more problems, but it is something manageable.

About my goals. I hope to continue improving my communication skills and improve my relationships at university (although I don’t really care about it, to be honest).

My personal challenges are to maintain the required level and continually improve it. I don’t seek to excel or be the best at everything, but I do want to maintain my level and improve it in the future.

My expectations for this semester are quite high, I hope to be able to enjoy what’s left of the year and not let my grades go down hahaha.

Little things I would like to improve are the ability to not overthink when writing and speaking in English, since I find it a bit stupid to know and understand all the words in the language but not be able to use them.

I also want to improve my way of writing, both so that it looks better and how I express my ideas, since it gets complicated when I express my ideas in writing, but not when I have to express myself speaking, which I find curious, to be honest.

With all that said, I hope this semester and the next ones are great and that I can enjoy the next few years at university.

Unit 1 picture description task.

Script:

In this photo, I see a father playing with his son with a bunch of toys on a rug. In the background, I see that they’re at home. Behind them, I see a sofa. On the back wall, I see a piece of furniture that appears to hold books. Personally, I think it’s a somewhat monochromatic house due to the lack of colors, but it still has its charm.

Some questions are going through my head regarding the photo:

why the entire house and furniture are white?

I wonder if the man is her father or another relative like a brother, uncle, or even a cousin.

I also wonder if they have someone else in the house, like the baby’s mother.

Also, the photo reminds me a lot of my daily life, since I have to play the same way with my younger siblings every time I have to take care of them.

My Language 1 Self-assessment.

Date 15-06-2025.

Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to personally explain how I’ve felt during this first semester. It was a peculiar experience in every aspect, both for the experience and for everything I learned.

I normally never talk about this, but I think that compared to the beginning of the semester, I now feel much more comfortable with everything around me. The teachers are quite kind and understanding of what one might struggle to understand. At the beginning of the year, I was quite nervous, to be honest, about what was coming up. I had some confidence because I understood English quite well, but you always learn new things, and my goodness, I did learn new things that I had never heard of before.

For example, capital letters, which are much more common than in Spanish, having to improve my punctuation with commas and periods . I thank the teachers for their patience and willingness to help me with these issues. But without a doubt my biggest problem is my communication in English since during my time before university I never saw the need to constantly speak or write in English and now that I need to speak or write my problem is noticeable and it is something that I have been able to improve this semester thanks to the help of the teachers. At least my listening and reading skills in English are my strong suit since I always use it in my daily life thanks to video games, videos, reading and many more ways in which I am accustomed to English.

About my classmates, I don’t think I could ask for anything better. They are all very kind and understanding of each other. It’s a very pleasant environment to be in. I even managed to form a group of people with whom I feel comfortable.

With all this said, I can only look at what the future holds and how to manage my weaknesses and improve them in the future. I see myself now and at the beginning of the semester and I’m happy to notice a personal change in myself and how I’ve been able to handle all of this.

And above all, to be able to improve my editing of my Edublogs. I’ve been using it for 6 months and I still have no idea how to edit.

( I suck when it comes to expressing myself more personally )

Home participation week 14: Forum unit 4.

Script:Regarding this unit, I think my strengths were that I was able to better understand long and short vowels, since it was really interesting to see how they work, since in Spanish we don’t have that separation into vowels. And what I could improve regarding this unit is my way of communicating r long and short vowels, since several words that I used to say are pronounced in a new way, and I will have to improve and take all of that into account, and above all, improve my pronunciation, since it is something that always costs me due to my lack of experience speaking English. Recommendations that I could give to understand these new vowels are to look for words that have both long and short vowels to differentiate how they are pronounced better.

Paul:I think so too!
Alice:Paul, there’s something I want to ask you, and even though I’m afraid of the answer, I really need to know the truth. Paul, are you seeing anybody else?
Paul:No! Alice, there’s no-one else, at least not in the way you think.
Alice:Not in the way I think? What does that mean? Just tell me Paul, what’s going on?
